Collaborative approach accelerates safety review of ageing infrastructure 

The safety and lifespan of infrastructure is becoming an increasingly urgent issue in the Netherlands. That’s because many of the bridges and viaducts were built in the years after World War II and were not designed for the weight and quantity of today’s traffic. New regulations have replaced the old safety standards and more than 300 structures now need to be reassessed. Rijkswaterstaat, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management in the Netherlands, has brought together a group of engineering firms and knowledge institutes to collaborate on recalculating the durability of the bridges and viaducts. We are part of the team, bringing our knowledge and experience to increase the speed and efficiency of the work.
